Royals

The new catchy song from Lorde playing on my stereo these days...

Verse 1]
I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address,
In a torn-up town, no postcode envy

But every song's like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room,
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams.
But everybody's like Cristal*, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece.
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash.
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair.

And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that fantasy.

[Verse 2]
My friends and I—we've cracked the code.
We count our dollars on the train to the party.
And everyone who knows us knows that we're fine with this,
We didn't come for money.

But every song's like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom.
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room,
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams.
But everybody's like Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece.
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leash
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair

And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that fantasy.

Ooh ooh oh
We're bigger than we ever dreamed,
And I'm in love with being queen.
Ooh ooh oh
Life is great without a care
We aren't caught up in your love affair.

And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luxe just ain't for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that fantasy.

The Pleasures of a Change!

Oh.. the pleasures of moving an apartment... how much fun packing and unpacking stuff.. (not to mention, discarding items)!

And it is the time to unleash your creativity!! It is almost like you are starting with a clean canvas.. the combinations and possibilities are limitless (of interior designing).

I would not trade this for anything in the world!!!... Hmm, well... if you really insist, may be I will consider letting you do the work for a grand. Nothing less.

The Supernatural Family!

My wife always used to claim she 'likes'  ghost movies.
It is a different matter after she sees one - [and she will not agree to this until after] - I need to be on guard and by her side for the next few nights ;)

Nevertheless, we seem to have a special liking for the supernatural kind... And now, our daughter seems to have inherited this aspect!!

Once when wifey was watching the trailer of this movie "The Conjuring", Aa got interested in it sensing the reaction from her mom who sat glued to the laptop.

Soon after, we made plans to catch this movie at the theatre - young parents: you know the drill, right? Make sure your kid stays awake during the day, feed her well, take her on a long drive and sure she will fall fast sleep. We did just that and it worked as fancied. We got the tickets, entered the theatre hall though a bit late and movie was just starting - And pronto, Aa work up and she recognized the movie from the trailer!

Thats it!! she sat right up, her face glowed like a halogen lamp and refused to go back to sleep.. we had to weave a story within the story for her.. like, blood became ketchup, ghosts became friends, etc.. And I had to predict gory or scary scenes in advance and cover her eyes in time! But, she would pull right at my hand and continue watching the movie till the end!!

--------------------------------

Have you seen this movie 'Ghost' starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore..? Pretty funny movie and romantic too..

We just love the song by the Righteous Brothers. You can almost say this is our family song!!

Oh my love my darling
I've hungered for your touch
A long lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me

Lonely rivers flow to the sea to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh wait for me wait for me
I'll be coming home wait for me

Oh my love my darling
I've hungered hungered for your touch
A long lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine
I need your love
I need your love
God speed your love to me

Research and Stats on Indians in USA..

Good to visit my friend, Sujatha's blog after a long time..

Found this article of specific interest in the context of Indians living in the US.. More than 1.9 million Indian-born immigrants in the US.. we are the third-largest immigrant group here, after Mexicans and Chinese... Interesting!

There is a good deal of statistics and reports on the Indian immigrant community here..

Originally by Monica Whatley, Jeanne Batalova of Migration Policy Institute, this article reports on a wide range of characteristics of Indian immigrants residing in the United States, including the population's size, geographic distribution, admission categories, and demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. Data are from the US Census Bureau's 2011 American Community Survey (ACS), the 2000 Decennial Census (as well as earlier censuses), and the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Office of Immigration Statistics (OIS) (2012 data).

"The nearly 1.9 million Indian immigrants living in the United States in 2011 represented the third-largest immigrant group by country of origin, behind Mexico and China. The share of Indian immigrants among all foreign born in the United States grew from less than 0.5 percent in 1960 to almost 5 percent in 2011.
As a group, immigrants from India are better educated, more likely to have strong English language skills and arrive on employment-based visas, and are less likely to live below the federal poverty line than the overall foreign-born population....

In 2011, India was the second most common country of origin for international students at US institutions of higher learning, behind China.

Almost one-third of all Indian immigrants resided in just two states: California and New Jersey.
California had the largest number of Indian immigrants in 2011 (380,700 or 21 percent of the nation's nearly 1.9 million Indian born), followed by New Jersey (210,400, or 11 percent). Other states with Indian immigrant populations greater than 100,000 were Texas (162,400, or 9 percent); New York (145,400, or 8 percent); and Illinois (127,200, or 7 percent).

Time Travel?

Now that we are on the topic of space and travel, here is something I came across today (via Huffington Post)..

It seems Russian cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev has spent more time in orbit around the Earth than anyone - 803 days, 9 hours and 39 minutes

And thanks to Universe Today, we know he is also the most prolific 'time' traveler - he has actually time-traveled into his own future by 0.02 seconds !!

"The calculation relies on Einstein's theories of relativity, which state that the passage of time is relative, and different, for two objects moving at different speeds or experiencing different levels of gravity.

Time dilation is a real effect, and has been demonstrated in experiments conducted first by flying highly accurate atomic clocks around the world on jet aircraft, and later by GPS satellites which have to be reprogrammed daily to counter the effect."

Follow the above link(s) to read more.

PS 1: how many of you seen 'Gravity'?
PS 2: how many of you like to travel in space?
PS 3: how many of you like to travel in space-time?!

Of course, I have watched 'Gravity' and loved it.. And am up for the rest of it on the list.. :)
