Ban on smoking and depiction of smokers in movies.. this was the topic of discussion in a few of my friends’ blogs, last week. Well..I think the ban is a good move. For one, it should put an end to the glorification of smoking and smokers in Indian movies. (For instance, actor Rajinikanth and his cigarette antics..) For another, it is a logical extension to the ban on smoking in public places. (Is it actually being implemented??)
But then that is not the reason for this post. I’m here to publish ‘Joey Bhasky’s laws of smoking’!!
But before that, here is a li’l background of the case. Looking at some of the reasons why people smoke.. craving and addiction to nicotine is one the most common reasons I have come across. A variation to this is the reason that they need a smoke to clear their head, to get their creative juices flowing, to stay awake, etc. Another common reason is that they smoke to kill time. (For these guys, I say, you cant kill time with your smoking.. your smoking would only kill you and the people around you. And time.. time will die a natural death ‘with the passage of time!’)
So, with that background, let me come straight to the Joey Bhasky’s laws of smoking ;)
The First Law:
Every smoker in a state of regular smoking tends to remain in that state unless an external force (read compulsion) is applied to it. (like their lover's or spouse’s ultimatum!)
The Second Law:
The pleasure from smoking is directly proportional to the number of people who admire his/her style of smoking and the number of free smokes he/she can lay hand to.
The Third Law:
Every puff has an equal and opposite ruff (on your lungs)

LOL...
Add to it Magnus's Theory of Relativity for smoking...
When there are two persons smoking (assuming they smoke the same amt daily).. The seem to be in a stationary plane towards death like a non-smoker, but in fact, they are moving in a faster yet same pace towards death... HEHEHE...
LOL ..Heard Newton is turning in his grave ..
The first law could be extended to also state why non-smokers smoke:
Every person in his/her state of regular smoking or non-smoking will tend to remain in that state unless an external force (read compulsion) is applied to him/her. (like their lover's or spouse’s ultimatum!/ friend's forcefullness)
Addendum to the second law:
..and is inversely proportional to the time spent with parents (can some smoker validate this hypothesis?)
Third law is awesome.
Good ones. ;)
Magnus Astrum
wah wah! that seems to explain why smokers easily borrow/lend cigarettes and exchange puffs.. it adds to the relativistic experience!!

Joey Bhasky's second law, in part, explains why non-smokers smoke..
I dont think non-smokers turn into smokers under compulsion.. One might take a couple of puffs under compulsion, but thats not smoking.
Thanks Jammy for all your enthu for this project. If not for you, this project might not have seen the light of the day! (acknowledgement section :)
